Dr Phil Helps Parents With Raging Adolescent

Sunday, January 29th, 2012

If you are struggling to tame a rebellious adolescent, the Dr. Phil show on Wednesday 25th, will tell you how to cope with an out-of control situation. Two parents, Chris and Barbara, say their 17-year-old daughter, Courtney, is out of control and turn to Dr. Phil for help in this incident.

It seems that the daughter, Courtney, has been in trouble many times with authority figures, especially in school. She has been arrested for punching out the school principal who woke her up from a nap, as well as faced 7 suspensions, 1 expulsion, and 5 school transfers.

Parents Chris and Barbara have tried everything they could think of to discipline and control Courtney, and she has no cell phone, no car, no computer, and other privileges most teenagers enjoy. Despite these restrictions, she continues to lash out at them.

Creating havoc is something that does not bother Courtney in the least. As a matter of fact, she appears to enjoy her antics and is even proud of admitting that she has stolen as much as $5,000 from her parents in the form of jewelry and cash. In addition, she destroyed the backyard when her father painted her room tan instead of her preferred color of pink. Courtney has even called the police when her teacher’s have sent her to the office of the school principal

The only time the teenager appears to be happy in any way is when she has drugs or alcohol.

Can Dr. Phil help her?

Parents who are dealing with out-of-control teens will find that the show provides a real solution to a pressing problem.

The new leader in daytime talk shows, Dr. Phil is a must see for discovering radical mental health solutions. Dr. Phil McGraw is one of the best known psychologists in the world.

The Dr. Phil Show first came on the air September 16, 2002. It features advice on life strategies offered by a clinical psychologist and covers current real life problems.

Samsung UN46D6420U LED 3D HDTV – LED HDTV Elegance for Smaller Rooms

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

The Samsung Company has been a leader in the improvement of HDTV flat panel sets; it is one of the top brands on the market. Their latest sets use LED back-lighting technology. This replaces the cold-cathode fluorescent lights that were used by the first generation of LCD TV sets. The development of this LED backlighting technique has allowed them to manufacture sets that are thinner, and lighter than earlier sets, yet produce significantly better picture quality. The Samsung UN46D6420U LED 3D HDTV is an excellent example of this technical superiority.

One of the most impressive features of this set is its 3D display capability. Samsung has adopted what is termed the Active 3D method for creating the 3D pictures on their LED TV sets. The key to achieving the 3D effect is to insure that each left or right image is visible by the proper eye. This is achieved by one of two methods, which are termed “active” and “passive”. Passive systems employ glasses that have polarized lenses that work together with polarizing filters that are built into the TV screen.

These filters polarize alternating horizontal lines in one of two different patterns. Each eye then can see only the one-half of the lines on the screen (and as a result sees an image with only half the full-screen resolution!) that correspond to the polarization of the lens over the left or right eye in the glasses that matches the screen polarization

With an Active system, the glasses “actively” alternate between being transparent, then opaque, by activating the LCDs in the lenses. Each eye is blocked sequentially, as the stereo image for the right or left eye is displayed on the screen. The synchronization is accomplished using a bluetooth signal provided by the TV set. These alternating images are shown at the rate of 120 HZ, so that each eye will see 60 images per second. Because each eye sees a full-screen image, there is no reduction of resolution in the 3D picture.

As mentioned previously, Samsung’s 3D HDTVs use the Active 3D system. They have two types of glassed that work with these TVs. One set requires batteries, the other is rechargeable, using any USB connection. The rechargeable glasses are extremely light, weighing just one ounce, and go for tens of hours of use on one charge.

The Active 3D system in the UN46D6420U also makes it possible to “up-convert” regular 2D content and programming to “near 3D” appearance. This means that the 2D program, whether network broadcasts, DVDs, or home movies can be given an appearance of depth that was not otherwise present in the original material.

The dimensions of the screen and the size of the room are important factors to consider when choosing a 3D television set. The optimal seating distance, to avoid eye strain is 3x the vertical dimension of the screen. On that basis, for a 46″ screen (which is about 23 inches high), the closest distance should be about 67″, or approximately 5.5 feet. For a 55″ screen, the closest distance would be slightly less than seven feet.

While the Active 3D is probably the most impressive feature of the UN46D6420U, it is just the starting point of a long list of great features. This Samsung HDTV set is loaded with what Samsung calls “Smart Apps” – applications that are form the basis of their “Smart TV” platform. These “Apps” allow you to use the TV to interface with the Internet, and download Web content from sites like Hulu Plus, Netflix, Pandora, and others.

Although certain “Apps” must be purchased for a dollar or two (much like iPhone apps), there is a generous list of Apps that are free, such as children’s material and games. Apps categories include areas like Sports, Lifestyle, Videos, Games, Education, and Information.

Another great feature of this UN46D6420U TV is “Allshare DLNA Technology”. DLNA is an abbreviation for “Digital Living Network Alliance”. It represents a technical standard that makes it possible for a variety of electronic appliances to link to each other, in order to make possible file sharing and data transmission. Samsung’s “Allshare” makes it simple to synch up various DLNA-enabled devices with your Samsung TV set, which means that you can enjoy all the media files on your computer, iPhone, and other devices on your new HDTV set . Add the available LinkStick from Samsung, and you will have wireless access too.

Find all the details, and learn more about the other impressive features of the Samsung UN46D6420U. These include The Eco Sensor, the Wide Color Enhancer Plus, and more. You will also find the full specs for the set. You can learn more about other impressive LED TV sets here.

Samsung UN46D6900W LED 3D HDTV Set, A Smart TV For Your Home

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

Samsung has long been in the forefront of the improvement of HDTV flat panel sets; it is one of the leading brands available. Their newest sets employ LED back-lighting technology, which eliminates the cold-cathode fluorescent lighting systems that were included in the first generation of LCD TV sets. The use of this LED technique has made it possible for them to produce sets that are thinner, and lighter than earlier sets, yet they produce significantly higher picture quality. The Samsung UN46D6900W LED 3D HDTV is an excellent illustration of this technical superiority.

Because an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) doesn’t produce any light, but instead functions like a shutter that adjusts the visibility of light as it passes through the display, all LCD displays require a back-light in order to be seen under dim lighting conditions. The LCD element of the screen simply functions as a “shutter” that either permits light to transmit through the display screen, or prevents it.

It functions like a miniature venetian blind: if the crystals in a display element are arranged in a perpendicular direction relative to the screen, light can pass through the cell, and it will appear bright. If the crystals are lined up parallel to the display, the transmission of light is blocked, and the element will appear black.

Thus, while an LCD display can easily be viewed in bright lighting conditions, to be visible in dim lighting conditions – or to create a useful TV picture – there must be a source of light behind the LCD display screen that provides the needed illumination, a back-lighting system.

The first generation of LCD TV sets were back-lit by fluorescent light tubes, which create a white light. Each “pixel” or “picture element” that constitutes a TV picture is a position on the display screen that has three very tiny filters that produce the each of the three primary TV colors: red, green, and blue (RGB).

The UN46D6900W Samsung LED HDTV with 3D set uses an “edge lighting” method to provide the back-lighting for its image. With this approach, extremely intense white-light LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are located around the edges of the screen frame. A diffuser plate is used to distribute the light across the full face of the display. The use of an LED lighting system results in much lower energy consumption.

The use of LED technology makes it possible for Samsung to have much better control over the brightness of each area of the image. They have created a system they refer to as “Micro Dimming”, which permits them to vary the intensity of the back-light from one area of the screen to another, which means that the picture has more brilliant whites, and that the black areas are much darker and deeper than was the case with the older LCD sets, which were lighted with fluorescent lights which stretch the entire width of the screen.

This set is very efficient: based on a usage rate of five hours per day, and an electricity charge of $0.11 per Kwh, it will cost approximately $15/year to operate this set. When the set is on standby, it uses just 0.07 Watts of power. That amounts to 0.6 Kwh/yr, which would cost less than $0.07 based on the same electric cost!

The UN46D6900W Samsung set is loaded with what Samsung terms “Smart Apps” – applications that make up the basis of their “Smart TV” platform. These “Apps” allow you to use the TV to work on the Internet, and download Web content from sites like Hulu Plus, Netflix, Pandora, and many others.

While certain “Apps” must be purchased for a dollar or two (similar to iPhone apps), there is a very wide selection of free Apps, including games and children’s material. Apps categories cover areas such as Lifestyle, Videos, Sports, Education, Information, and Games.

Owning this set will substantially enhance your TV viewing experience, as well as making it easy to work with all your other media, from your computer to your iPhone to the Internet. Samsung 40D6400 3D LED HDTV – A Great Choice For Smaller Rooms

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

When it comes to flat panel HDTV sets, Samsung is almost certainly the Industry leader. It has been the top selling manufacturer of flat screen TVs for some years. As of early 2011, Samsung had sold 30% more flat panel TVs than its closest rival. Anyone who has seen a Samsung HDTV set in operation will not be terribly surprised at that fact.

The images you will see on a Samsung HDTV are stunning in their sharpness and brilliance. Combine that with the high level of technical design and the broad range of features that Samsung includes in its sets, and you have a very strong argument for anyone thinking about purchasing of one of these sets….and that’s without even considering the Active 3D capabilities of these sets!

Samsung’s 3D sets employ an “Active” 3D approach. This employs glasses with LCD lenses which serve like shutters. These lenses alternately lighten and darken for one eye or the other as the picture frame for the particular eye is being shown on the screen.. The other way of approaching the 3D problem is called “Passive 3D”. There is a very big difference between the two methods, and it becomes apparent in the perceived quality of the images that are you see on the sets.

Creating a 3D image requires that your left eye and your right eye must see an image which is slightly different, ones in which objects which are at various distances from you appear in a different place. To observe this effect, hold up one finger at arm’s length, and observe it with only your right eye, and then with just your left eye. As you do this, notice the position of the object when compared to other objects that are at a greater distance.

Notice that when seeing through your right eye, your finger appears to be to the left of some objects in the background, but when seeing through your left eye, the location of your finger will appear to have moved right, compared to those same objects. The name for this effect is: “parallax”,, and it is the foundation of the techniques used to create a 3D image effect on a movie or television screen.

The key distinction between the different systems, the Active system and the Passive system, is in the method used to present the different stereoscopic images to the appropriate eye. A three-dimensional perception will only be seen if each eye can see only the proper image. As you may have already observed, if you look at a 3D image without 3D glasses, you will see a double image. In order to observe the 3D effect, your brain must receive a different image from each eye, and those images must the proper parallax.

Passive systems employ glasses with polarized lenses that work in tandem with polarizing filters that are built in to the TV screen. These filters polarize two sets of alternating horizontal lines on the screen in one of two different polarization patterns. Each eye then sees only one of the two sets of lines on the screen (and therefore sees an image that has only half the full-screen resolution!) that match the polarization of the lens left or right in the glasses that matches the screen polarization for those lines.

With the Active 3D system, the lenses in the glasses “actively” become alternately opaque, then transparent, through control of the LCDs that are used in the lenses. Each eye is blocked in sequence, as the image frame for the right or left eye is being shown. The coordination of the images with the glasses is achieved by synchronizing the 3D glasses with a signal that is transmitted by the TV set. The different frames are displayed at the rate of at least 120 HZ, that means that each eye will see at least 60 images per second. Since each eye sees the full-screen, 1080i HDTV image, there is no loss of resolution in the screen image.

Samsung uses the Active 3D system in all its 3D TVs, including the UN40D6400. In addition to offering great 3D TV, this set has a many other great features that will make it your media center. Samsung employs LED edge lighting to furnish the back-lighting for the screen (LCDs do not create any light – they only function as “shutters” to regulate the transmission of light through the screen). The edge mounted LEDs do away with the small diameter fluorescent lamps that were previously used in earlier LCD HDTV sets.

Samsung has a wide range something they call “Smart Apps” – small “applications” that run on their TVs. These Apps are small programs (similar to iPhone Apps) that actually run on the TV set. (It’s worth noting that these TVs have a large amount of processing power at their disposal.) Although some of these Apps must be purchased, the cost is pretty much pocket change, and there are quite a few free Apps. These Apps cover a very broad range of subject areas including Videos, Sports, Lifestyle, Education, Games, and Information. There are also some Apps that will allow you to browse the Internet, and to make use of services like Netflix, Pandora, Hulu Plus, and many others.

The Samsung UN40D6400 set also has a feature called the “ConnectShare” Movie feature. This makes it possible for you to listen to music, run videos, or browse pictures from your USB Thumb Drive. Just insert the drive in the USB port that’s provided on the TV, and you are ready to enjoy your media files.

In addition to all the great electronic features, Samsung has designed this set to improve your viewing experience by minimizing reflections from the room environment on the TV screen. The set features Samsung’s “Ultra Clear Panel” at the front of their screens. This special panel has a treated surface that will absorb light from around the room. This helps to eliminate those distracting reflections that would otherwise interfere with the TV picture.

Selecting the Appropriate Television system for your house Theater

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

While there are many components that make up the average home theater system most people often neglect the importance of their televisions for the overall video and movie watching experience. Obviously in life, bigger, when it comes to televisions for your home theater, is not always better. There are many things that must be considered when choosing the best possible television for your home theater and dimensions are only one of many.

Mass retailers show televisions in a way that suits their purpose, the sale. This doesn’t mean that their means of displaying their televisions paints those sets in a proper light for your home viewing experience. Years ago, a 20-inch viewing window on your television was considered huge. It was a luxury saved for those who were extremely wealthy. The facts of the matter is that if you don’t sit a proper distance from a television the quality of the picture will appear horrible if your set is way too large.

There are good rules of thumb to consider when purchasing a television set for your room, at least where dimensions are concerned. The rule is that you simply will want no more than 4″ of diagonal screen inches on your television for every foot away from the set you will be when watching wire. The rule goes up in order to 5 inches per foot for satellite television or DVDs, and 6 inches per foot if you are viewing high definition television.

Of course with every rule there are exceptions. For this rule general exceptions can be two story great rooms or cathedral ceilings which may actually call for a larger television and basements or dropped ceilings that could actual be better suited for smaller televisions. You really must consider all of these things when picking the television that will best suit your requirements when it comes to your home theater along with your theater set up.

Of course there’s more than size to consider with regards to the television you ultimately choose for your home theater and taste along with space will each play important roles in the television you should choose. One important consideration is price. When you approach the store and see all the wonderful new televisions who advertise endless hours of movie watching bliss in a very hefty price tag to check. You need to be able to weed through without getting distracted by the latest and greatest of bells and whistles in order to find the set that can meet all of your movie watching needs and fall within your budget.

For this particular trip I propose walking in with money in hand (the limit you’ve got set) and that you leave the charge card at home. You should also carefully consider whether or not you will want an extended warranty as that will raise the base price of your television and isn’t reflected in the ’sticker’ price. If you bring your credit card you will be tempted to overspend instead of sticking with your original budget.

Apart from price you really need to carefully consider the type of television you’d like to have for your home theater. Keep in mind that you can buy larger versions of older technology for similar price you’d pay for smaller screen sizes when it comes to LCD televisions. You should also consider the size of the television you really need for this portion too. Many of us do not sit more than 12 feet from my televisions, which means you may not need as much television as you may have previously thought you would need. What is important when choosing a television is to do not forget that this is an investment that most folks do not make terribly often. For that reason you should expect to drop a considerable chunk of change on this particular investment in your home theater system.

Samsung UN46D6420U LED 3D HDTV – Great Value in 3D Television

Monday, January 16th, 2012

Samsung has long been a force in the improvement of HDTV flat panel sets; it is one of the leading brands on the market. The Samsung UN46D6420U LED 3D HDTV is a good example of this technical superiority. One of the outstanding features of this set is its 3D capability. Samsung has adopted the Active 3D method for creating the 3D images on their HDTV sets. The key to achieving the 3D effect is to make sure that each of the two stereo images is seen only by the proper eye. This is done by one of two methods, which are termed “active” and “passive”. Passive systems utilize glasses with polarized lenses that work in tandem with polarizing filters that are built in to the TV screen.

These filters polarize alternating horizontal lines in one of two different polarization patterns. Each eye then can see only one of the two sets of lines on the screen (and therefore sees an image that has only half the full-screen resolution!) that match the polarization of the lens over the left or right eye in the glasses that corresponds to the screen polarization for those lines.

With an Active system, the lens in front of each eye “actively” becomes opaque, then transparent. This is done by switching the LCDs that are used in the lenses. Each eye is blocked in sequence, as the stereo frame for the left or right eye is displayed on the screen. The coordination is accomplished by synching the glasses by using a signal transmitted by the TV set. These alternating frames are presented at the rate of 120 HZ, so that each eye sees 60 images per second. Because each eye perceives a full resolution image, there is no downgrading of resolution in the 3D image.

As mentioned earlier, Samsung’s 3D LED TVs employ an Active 3D system. There are two types of glassed that can be used with these sets. The first type needs batteries, the other type uses rechargeable batteries, which can be charged using any USB connection. The rechargeable glasses are very lightweight, weighing only one ounce, and will work for tens of hours with just one charge.

Active 3D is just the start of the long list of great features you will find in the Samsung UN46D6420U HDTV. This Samsung set is loaded with what Samsung calls their “Smart Apps” – applications that form the foundation of their “Smart TV” platform. This array of “Apps” allow you to use the TV to interface with the Internet, and to download Web content from providers like Hulu Plus, Netflix, Pandora, and many others.

While some of the “Apps” must be purchased for one or two dollars (similar to iPhone apps), there is a very wide selection of Apps that are free, including games and children’s material. Apps categories cover areas such as Lifestyle, Videos, Sports, Education, Information, and Games

Samsung UN46D6900W LED 3D HDTV Set, Flat Screen Elegance

Sunday, January 15th, 2012

Samsung has long been in the forefront of the improvement of HDTV flat panel sets; it is one of the leading brands available. Their newest sets employ LED back-lighting technology, which eliminates the cold-cathode fluorescent lighting systems that were included in the first generation of LCD TV sets. The use of this LED technique has made it possible for them to produce sets that are thinner, and lighter than earlier sets, yet they produce significantly higher picture quality. The Samsung UN46D6900W LED 3D HDTV is an excellent illustration of this technical superiority.

Since an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) does not produce any light of its own, but rather works as a shutter to control the passage of light through the display, any LCD displays requires a back-light in order to be seen under dim lighting conditions. The LCD part of the screen simply provides as a “shutter” that either permits light to transmit through the display screen, or blocks it. It functions like a miniature venetian blind: if the crystals in a display element are arranged in a perpendicular direction relative to the screen, light can pass through the cell, and it will appear bright. If the crystals are lined up parallel to the display, the transmission of light is blocked, and the element will appear black.

Consequently, while an LCD display can be seen in bright lighting conditions, to be seen in low intensity lighting situations – or to create a usable TV picture – there must be a light source behind the LCD display screen that provides the needed illumination, what is known as a back-lighting system. The earliest models of LCD TV sets were back-lit by a set of cold-cathode fluorescent tubes, which produce a white light. Every picture element, or more simply, “pixel” that goes to create a TV picture, is spot on the display screen that has three miniscule filters that pass the each of the three primary TV colors: red, green, and blue (RGB).

Using LED lighting makes it possible for Samsung to have much better control over the brightness of specific areas of the image. They have created a system they refer to as “Micro Dimming”, which enables them to change the intensity of the back-light from one area of the screen to another, which means that the picture has more intense white areas, and that the black regions are much darker and deeper than you what will see with the older LCD sets, which are illuminated with fluorescent lights which extend the full width of the set.

Samsung UN46D6420U LED 3D HDTV – Flat Screen Elegance for Smaller Rooms

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

The Samsung Company has been a leader in the development of HDTV flat panel sets; it is one of the premier brands on the market. Their latest sets feature LED back-lighting technology, which replaces the linear fluorescent tube systems that were used by the first generation of LCD TV sets. The use of LED technology has made it possible for them to design sets that are thinner, and weigh less than previous sets, yet produce substantially better picture quality. The Samsung UN46D6420U LED 3D HDTV is a perfect example of this technical superiority.

The 3D capability is one of the outstanding features of this set. Samsung uses the Active 3D method for displaying 3D images on their LED HDTV sets. The secret to creating the 3D effect is to be certain that each of the stereoscopic 3D images is visible only to the correct eye. This is done by one of two different methods, known as “passive” and “active”. Passive systems employ glasses that have polarized lenses that work in tandem with polarizing filters that are part of the TV screen.

In the case of an Active system, the glasses “actively” become opaque, then transparent, by controlling the LCDs that make up the lenses. Each eye is blocked in alternation, as the stereo frame for the right or left eye is shown on the screen. The coordination is achieved by synching the glasses with a signal transmitted from the TV set. These alternating frames are shown at the rate of 120 HZ, so that each eye sees 60 images each second. Because each eye perceives a full resolution image, there is no loss of resolution in the 3D image.

The Samsung Active 3D system also makes it possible to “up-convert” regular 2D programming and content to what is termed “near 3D” appearance. This means that 2D programs, which could be DVDs, broadcasts, or home movies can be provided with the appearance of depth that is not otherwise present in the material.

The size of the screen is important when evaluating a 3D TV purchase. The recommended viewing distance, to help prevent eye strain is a minimum 3x the height of the TV screen. According to that, for a 46″ diagonal screen (which has a vertical dimension of about 23″), the closest viewing distance should be about 67″, or around 5.5 feet. For a 55″ screen, the minimum distance would be slightly less than seven feet.

Although some of the “Apps” must be purchased for a dollar or two (much like iPhone apps), there is a broad list of free Apps, such as children’s material and games. Apps categories cover areas such as Videos, Sports, Games, Lifestyle, Information, and Education.

Another neat thing about this set is its use of “Allshare DLNA Technology”. DLNA is an abbreviation for the “Digital Living Network Alliance”. It represents an “interoperability protocol” that makes it possible for a variety of electronic appliances to link up to make possible file sharing and data transmission. Samsung’s “Allshare” makes it easy to synch up most of your DLNA-enabled components with your Samsung TV set, which means that you can access all the media files on your computer, iPhone, and other devices on your HDTV set as well. Add the optional LinkStick, and you can have wireless access as well.

Samsung UN46D6900W LED 3D HDTV Set, Smart TV For Your Home

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

The Samsung Company has been in the forefront of the development of HDTV flat panel sets; it is one of the top brands available. Their newest sets include LED back-lighting technology, which eliminates the cold-cathode fluorescent tube systems that were included in the first generation of LCD TV sets. The development of this LED technology has enabled them to produce sets that are thinner, and lighter than previous sets, yet produce significantly higher picture quality. The Samsung UN46D6900W LED 3D HDTV is a good example of this technical superiority.

It works like a very tiny venetian blind: when the crystals in a display element are lined up perpendicular to the screen, light is able to pass through the cell, and it will be bright. If the crystals are aligned parallel to the display, the transmission of light is stopped, and the element will appear black.

Using LED lighting makes it possible for Samsung to gain much tighter control over the brightness of specific areas of the screen. They have developed a system they refer to as “Micro Dimming”, which permits them to change the level of the back-light from one area of the image to another, which means that the picture has more intense whites, and that the black areas are much darker and deeper than you will see with the older LCD sets, which are lighted with fluorescent lamps extending across the full width of the set.
