Give Them Something Special They Will Cherish From You with Fairy Figurines

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Psychiatrist will tell us that type of toy for a child chooses to play with has more to do with socialization that an innate feelings. The idea is if you always traditionally girl toys they will play with them and vice versa. But when it comes to fairy figurines you can be sure it will first captured the attention of the girls.

Whether this is condition based on social images the children see or not, early in life the differences generally show. Certainly the marketing of a series of pixies which light up and have sound generating wands is directed squarely at girls. Space raider toys have a more boy-specific undertone.

Figurines in general seem to be something girls are more attracted to, perhaps because in the hands of boys even dragon figurines do not last long. Whether it is the delicate shape or the wings, there is something innately feminine about them. Perhaps that is why dragon figurines are the ones that capture the attention of boys.

As the children grow from toddlers to teenagers, there is a dramatic change in their tastes. Spun glass figurines, regardless of the quality and shape, are unlikely to adorn the desk of most guys, while the gals might have many. The young men are likely to purchase them, however, as gifts to a special someone.

The market has increased greatly with the release of major entertainment films, programming and even books depicting these fantasy creatures. Just as movies now seem to be created with the toy marketing built into them, any time there is a movie or TV show that has fairies in them, the figurines become more popular.

The ability to create exquisitely delicate features in an ever growing range of materials makes the idea of collecting them popular. The influx of animation cartoons originally from Japan has also increased attention. Re-released classics like Peter Pan from Disney has brought them back to life.

But the notion of them as real people was presented with the release of the Lord of the Rings series, in which the pixie folk played an important role. In addition, one of the lead characters was such a person and was also wildly popular with the ladies as an actor. With all the new found hype, it is no wonder fairy figurines have gained a solid base once more.

Men Now Collect 80s Action Figures

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

When children saw the first Star Wars movie on May 25, 1977, they were enchanted. This first of the original trilogy began production of a host of Star Wars figures. These 80s action figures were sold to an eager public. They now are auctioned and sold in whatever condition men can find them. The prices are beyond imagination. They were only $3 and up in the 80s.

Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia are valued by collectors all over the country. Even such obscure figures as vintage Cloud Car Pilot and Zukuss are desirable to complete the sets of avid collectors. Conventions and shows are held to sell and buy these items.

The original Transformers from the 80s are valued, unlike the new series of this decade. The collectors consider generation 1 Transformers to be far superior. They could be manipulated from truck to robot and back, over and over by children. The Dinobots were especially popular and who can forget the little green Constructicons? One awesome figure was that of Optimus Prime who went from truck to huge robot.

Both Transformers and Star Wars figures are valued in spite of condition. The sellers rate them according to condition. Even those that are worn from repeated play sessions, are being purchased. Accessories are sold individually.

Some men collect the Masters of the Universe vintage figures. Condition is not always important. It is true that those in good condition are sold for higher prices though. They have accessories that are valued, however obscure.

In 1982, the G. I. Joe series was reissued. It had been originally made in 1964. The action figures of G. I. Joe were based on a story line of them fighting off the Evil Cobra Command. G. I. Joe eventually evolved into the Real American Hero series of figures. These soldiers had skills such as weapons, explosives and the martial arts.

These and many other 80s action figures are bought, traded and sold by the men who played with them as boys. Reliving their childhood fun, they avidly try to collect as may as possible by attending auctions, shows or purchasing them online. The prices can range from somewhat high to exorbitant. The prices of today for Luke Skywalker, the evil Darth Vader and others are amazing. Apparently, they bring up happy childhood memories for the men who used to play with them as boys.

For my opinion the best place for getting 80s action figures and other action figures is www.action-toy.com for sure.

What Toy Story Action Figures Are Available

Monday, December 26th, 2011

The Toy Story movies have become very popular. The first one was brought to theaters in 1995 and was a big success. The second was released in 1999 and was even more popular than the first. It has been a wait of over ten years for Toy Story 3 to make its appearance. As each movies has been released so too has its merchandise. Some of the most sought after items are the Toy Story action figures.

Action figures are dolls that are created to look exactly like the characters from the movies. They usually have moveable arms and legs, sometimes other parts too, which is what gives them the name ‘action’. You can play with these figures and act out the movie and pose the figures in a way to portray this.

One of the most popular characters in all three movies is Buzz Lightyear. There are two different action figures of this character that you can buy. The original figure was released at the same time as the first movie and can still be purchased now. The figure is twelve inches tall and has arms and legs that you can move into different positions. There are also extendable wings on his back and he has a retractable helmet. As well as being able to move the limbs of this figure you can also hear him speak fifteen phrases from the films. This makes the figure more realistic.

Alongside the release of Toy Story 3 there is a new Buzz Lightyear action figure to go with this. This is an upgraded model of the original with a slightly different look. It is also twelve inches and has all the same moving parts but this one has 28 character phrases and also has a working laser just like in the film.

Another main character is Woody. Just like the character in the film the action figure of Woody is 16 inches tall and has a drawstring on the back. When you pull this string you hear some of Woody’s best known phrases from the film. This one has been brought out for Toy Story 3. There will be an original one but this does not appear to be readily available anymore.

Toy Story 2 brought the addition of a new character called Jessie and an action figure was released for her. She is very similar to Woody in that she also has a drawstring which makes her talk. The original doll had 20 phrases and yodelled as well. However the Jessie doll that has been release for Toy Story 3 has 23 character phrases and yodels. This doll also has the option to remove the hat and jeans and has a moveable head.

Some of the other characters from the Toy Story movies have action figures as well. Mr Potato Head has two action figures available. In one he has on a Woody costume and the other sees him wearing a Buzz Lightyear outfit.

The slinky dog also has two action figures available. These are the original one and the new one for the new film. There are many new characters being introduced in Toy Story 3 and if these prove popular they are sure to have their own action figures soon too.

If you are planning to get yourself some toy story action figures you should get your self at action figures site www.action-toy.com and see what they are offering.

Dragon Figurines And Much More

Sunday, December 4th, 2011

Dragon figurines and fairy style figurines are becoming very popular these days. They can make great gifts for people who are interested in fantasy and mythology, and therefore are usually an excellent idea in this regard. When shopping for a Christmas or a birthday present, be sure to keep these in mind as they often can make excellent ornaments.

Girls might be particularly interested in collecting the likes of both fairy figurines and spun glass figurines. Often, adding them to a bedroom or a living room can be somewhat tasteful. Strategically placing them upon a shelf in one’s bedroom will also add an interesting air to the room. A lot of stores are out there where they can be bought.

Sometimes they are inexpensive, other times the likes of dragon and fairy figurines can be costly. This will depend on the material they are made from. Those made out of bone china will come as being quite pricey. But they are quite capable of becoming collector’s items in years to come, and therefore it is important to keep them in good condition.

Smaller sets are also available which contain these figurines that are plainly colored. They will also come with a set of paints, so the owner can choose to paint them however they want. This is a very good idea when one hasn’t idea of what to get their children. Girls often prefer fairy figurines and boys will be more interested in dragon figurines.

Fantasy and mythology have come into vogue, especially in more recent years since books and films like Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings have come onto the stage. A lot of these franchises have produced interesting ornaments for people to collect. Collector’s items are a big thing and could be worth money in many years to come.

Keeping them in perfect condition therefore is advised by many. Often collectors find that they won’t want to take them from their original packaging in order to keep them in the same condition in which they arrived.

The option of ordering spun glass figurines and more is also available over the Internet. Getting ornaments, whether it be as a token of thanks or as birthday present has never been easier. Be careful to keep them out of the children’s reach, as it is possible they might swallow some smaller parts. Keeping them on a high shelf usually does the trick.

Saturday, October 8th, 2011

Humans have long had dragons in tales of mythology, stories of history, and in cultural traditions. Nearly every culture has one of these mythic creatures that shows up in some form. Individuals who want a part of this unique culture can purchase dragon figurines for personal enjoyment.

For the devoted followers of J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth saga the characters of Glaurung, Scatha, or Smaug can be found. Those that love the world of Pern that was created by Anne McCaffrey can find these designs as well. Nearly any piece of fantasy literature has provided sculptors with the inspiration to create fine spun glass figurines, fairy figurines, or incredible dragon figurines.

While most dragons are associated with terror and destruction, there are also a number that are lovable and happy. Consider the children’s movies of Pete’s Dragon and Mulan which features these mythical animals. Elliot and Mushu produce giggles and smiles rather than fear.

These fantasy creatures have been used as a reason for a number of events that could not be explained at the time. Consider sailors with warnings of sea serpents that roamed the open water waiting to eat whole ships. Yu, is a golden beast that is found in Chinese mythology. Yu was said to control the rain and even saved people from a devastating flood. The peoples of ancient Mesopotamia, Babylon, and Sumer believed in Zu. This evil animal attempted to destroy the world of man by stealing the texts which held the laws of man. There are many more throughout history, literature, movies, and much more.

The legends of these animals can be dated as far back as 400 BCE, though the stories are likely older. These legendary entities have been said to be able to live anywhere from the center of the planet to deep in the sea. Their habitat has ranged from cliffs, caves, fire, or any place that has darkness that can be hidden in.

Depending upon the character of the animal it is either a friend to mankind or its enemy. As with any good tale, there are also battles between the good and evil within their own kind. People have a wide selection of the mythical beasts that earns the most attention.

Dragon figurines are a symbol of the imagination found in all of us. The stories which involve these animals are rich in all of the page turning elements that spark people’s interest. The tales begin in childhood and carry on through adult life.

A Look At Current Trends In Embroidery Patterns

Saturday, May 28th, 2011

All over the world, men and women enjoy the quaint and interesting hobby of embroidery. This historic needlecraft has changed a great deal over its lifetime and has been given a high tech boost through the popular embroidery machines that can whip up a lovely design with a push of a button. It’s your call, your decision, your free hand in choosing the most popular embroidery patterns you feel would suit you, and also when choosing what method to use – kicking it old school with your floss and needle, or embracing technology with your fancy-Dan embroidery machine at your loyal service. Without further ado, here are the top five most popular embroidery patterns:

Old-fashioned red designs In days past, red embroidery floss was incredibly expensive and often used by itself to showcase the beautiful color. Wash day would not be a problem, because red embroidery floss was a colorfast type of floss that would not mix with other clothes or linens. Red work patterns include colonial designs like birds, kitchen ware, and flowers. Red work is back in vogue and certainly a wise choice.

Initials Initials are a trend that may never go away in the wonderful world of embroidery. You can have initials, or maybe full names and words embroidered onto everything and anything under the sun, such as clothes, kitchen towels, pillow cases or backpacks.

Vintage embroidery Vintage is back with a vengeance, my friends! Some of the most wildly popular embroidery patterns are those day-of-week dish towels that bring you back to the days of Leave It To Beaver and I Love Lucy. These dishtowel patterns are always a fun way to perk up a kitchen while serving a purpose. Make a pillow case look spiffy with a vintage-style flower vine, or bring back the old days with “his” and “hers” towels for your newlywed friends or children!

Timeless classics for the kids The newest addition to the family can certainly feel comfortable and amused at the same time with some embroidered classic cuddlies. Childhood classics are always a great choice, may it be a baby polar bear, rabbit or whatnot, or maybe one of those amusing cartoon characters. Certainly your child or grandchild will delight in these kiddie cuddlies, and these items are sure to sell like Elvis records did back in the 1950s!

Jazzing up clothing Nothing makes glad rags look glad better than embroidered details. Clothing designs that would set you aside from the rest of the old gang include unusual stitches that could spice up any neckline, hemline, seam, or practically any other design. With a new embroidery machine, you can either embroider directly only your garment or create a separate embroidered piece and later attach it to your garment.

These embroidery designs are always popular and come in many different sizes, styles, and colors.

Tips On Taking Care Of Your Antiques

Saturday, April 23rd, 2011

Have you just started collecting antiques or have you been given some beautiful heirlooms and haven’t a clue how to care of them?

We may be “just anybody” but then again we may be of help, as antiques are indeed worth investing in and a slice of family life and history. And if we care for them properly, this ensures that generations to follow inherit these relics or possibly sell them at the highest possible value.

You can go online, visit places like BBC and Antiques-UK and get valuable assistance on caring for antiques. Always turn to the experts when having difficulty deciding. Consider the following tips if you need some assistance in caring for your antiques.

Handle glass and porcelain items, as well as pottery, with care, and don’t take things too far. To avoid chipping, wash each item individually in a padded basin. Be very careful when judging the water temperature (must be lukewarm to warm) and choosing the cleanser (use a gentle variety), and clean with a soft bristled brush. Don’t ever put antique glasses or dishes in the dishwasher. You risk harming them with the hot temperatures and strong detergent. Carefully wipe glasses dry and allow dishes to air dry. Liquids left in glassware can stain so avoid leaving cut flowers for example in contact with the glass if the water starts to turn or the leaves start to dry out.

Store or display glass and dishes in a safe place. Avoid displaying on an open shelf, rail or on the wall if your home is subject to vibrations from nearby trains or is busy with people passing by.

Both rugs and textiles require very gentle handling when moving, storing or cleaning. Antique fabric can easily get torn apart or pulled apart, so it is important to move these items slowly and gently. Make sure the pile faces towards the outside end to avoid rug damage in any way. Tie garments on one end after covering them with white cotton or rolling them with acid free paper – always use the sturdiest hangers possible. Use the gentlest setting you could when vacuuming your rugs and textiles. Putting it even in medium setting could potentially tear fibers apart. Our good friends at BBC Antiques consider it best to place paper towels on both sides of the rugs when cleaning out spills, gradually replacing them until they are totally dry. Any other cleaning should be done by an expert. Avoid both sunlight and humidity.

Do not wax your wooden furniture with just any cleaning agent – use only the best quality beeswax, and use a soft piece of cloth without any lint to dust these items. Do not store any furnishings in rooms where the temperature can drastically change, and as usual, avoid exposure to sunlight and humidity. When moving antique furniture, always lift and never drag.

Antiques have a wow factor with most everyone, so proper care will help your investment increase in value or enable you to pass them on for the enjoyment of your family.

However, you will want to discover these locations that you can purchase these from, some of them you might have heard about before, but some of them you might not have thought about using before.
