What Our Grandmother Gave Us

My name is Susan and my twin sister is called Pam. We are good sisters, love each other, and love to do everything together. We really like to cook and we much prefer to make our food on our own then to buy it at the store.

They made butter, yogurt, and cheese from the milk. They milled the wheat and made from the flour bread and cakes. They sold the food they made at the market.

When I and Pam heard that we got really excited and begged our great grandmother to teach us how to do all these things. She was happy to teach us, so we went every few days to her and she taught us all kinds of things.

At the first day she taught us how to bake bread. We ran to the supermarket to buy the bread ingredients, because we of course do not have cows in our back yard. Then Grandma showed us how to sift the flour, how to knead the dough, how long to let the dough rise, how to make it in the shape of a loaf of bread, how and why to spread egg on top, and how long to bake it. We were very proud of ourselves when the bread came out of the oven, golden brown and smelling great. We sliced one loaf to taste and it was delicious. We enjoyed it very much and waited to get home and give everyone to taste the delicious bread.

A few days later we came to Grandma’s house for the next lesson. She showed us a few bags of milk and said that she got them for a great price at the supermarket because it started to go bad. She said that she is going to teach us how to make cheese and it does not matter if the milk is bad.

Every few days we would come visit her and she would teach us how to make something else. Once we made her a surprise and we brought her a lot of food that we made on our own. She was very proud of us.

We always tried everything we learned at home, and then made it a lot of times. Our family liked it almost as much as we did and our little brother, that barely use to eat anything, stated eating much better and said that the food was great.
